LIMA for PSTN
Voice over IP networks are replacing the fixed telephony networks everywhere. Despite this new communication technology, a lot of telephony calls today are still handled by the PSTN telephony network.
Although investments in the PSTN networks are kept as low as possible, operators need to keep their lawful interception solutions in operation. LIMA provides a very cost-effective solution to start with. But, as the migration of the network to VoIP progresses, the LIMA solution can be migrated also. By means of its flexible adapter architecture, a traditional LIMA circuit switched mediation solution can be migrated to a fully IP based system. Even hybrid solutions are possible; handling both traditional telephony as well as VoIP on the same system.
In case PSTN related investments in lawful interception solutions can’t be avoided, LIMA is an excellent choice. The re-use of hardware and licenses protect LIMA investments when the network migrates to IP and assures that the lawful interception solution always matches the network requirements.

Technical information
LIMA for PSTN is an interception solution that can be used to intercept voice traffic in fixed telephony networks.
Typical installations include a LIMA Management System and one or more LIMA Mediators. In configurations that use active interception, the LIMA MS and Mediator are directly integrated with the core network elements.
Passive monitoring solutions include LIMA monitors for monitoring SS7, intercepting target information in a non-intrusive way. Passive solutions range from entry level configuraitons for monitoring a few E1/T1 links to large scale, country-wide configurations that monitor thousands of E1/T1 links in parallel.
