IP is replacing telephony as the most important form of communication. Internet applications like chat, e-mail and instant messaging are becoming more and more popular. This shift puts pressure on Communication Service Providers worldwide for implementing Lawful Interception in their IP networks.

The best, or sometimes the best affordable way, for Lawful Interception varies from network to network. In some situations active interception suits best because of the network equipment used. Other situations require passive interception to render the best solution for lawful interception. Even combinations of active and passive interception are not uncommon.

LIMA for IP supports all forms of interception. Direct integration with network equipment of leading vendors like Cisco, Juniper and AcmePacket guarantee a solid solution at fair cost. In situations where no direct integration is possible or desirable, passive monitoring provides the right solution.

Technical information

LIMA for Broadband is an interception solution that can be used to intercept all types of data traffic in broadband networks such as xDSL or Cable networks.

Typical installations include a LIMA Management System, one or more LIMA Mediators and often LIMA Monitors for monitoring authorisation traffic such as DHCP or Radius.

Interception of the IP traffic itself is often done by using active interception, the LIMA MS and Mediator are directly integrated with the core network elements, like Edge Routers or CMTS-es. When Passive monitoring is used to intercept the IP traffic, solutions include LIMA monitors that can monitor IP links with speeds upto 10's of Gb/s.
