SIMM/USSD makes development of USSD services easy
For offering new USSD services to their end-users, Service Providers need means for simple and quick service building, preferably without the requirement for special skills. The Group 2000 USSD gateway application provides an XML/HTTP based interface for building USSD application on a generic application server.
Providing
USSD services directly in a GSM network is generally done by a direct interface
to the SS7 signaling stack. The development of such signaling applications
requires very specific knowledge that is not commonly available. So, in
order to be able to introduce new USSD services quickly, Service Providers
need a simple and unified access to the SS7 signaling network.
Group 2000 USSD Gateway
The knowledge for web-based development is much wider spread than the knowledge for development of GSM signaling applications. The ability of building USSD services in a web-like environment provides unique opportunities. Based on the Group 2000 SIMM platform, the USSD Gateway provides exactly this. It is a gateway between the SS7 signaling environment (USSD over MAP) and an Application Server, accessible via XML over HTTP(S) and TCP/IP. The service is built on the Application Server using any web-environment that supports XML as a communication mechanism.
In addition to low-level interfacing, the USSD Server also provides for configuring the user dialogue. It analyses the requests from the user and transforms this into the associated request to the Application Server. The response then forwarded to the handset. Supporting configuration options at various levels, the Group 2000 USSD Server can be easily adapted to support any service.
Open interfaces
3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) defined the Open Service Architecture (OSA). An architecture that enables operator and third party applications to make use of network functionality through an open, standardisedAPI. OSA provides the glue between applications and service capabilities provided by the network In this way applications become independent from the underlying network technology. The Group 2000 USSD Server supports this API via its XML interface. It shields the complexity of the underlying MAP/SS7 communication from the application programmer.
